The pandemic has left many isolated and alone. But CainerFest music festival, a fundraiser for suicide prevention efforts at the CMHA, is striking a chord.

“Music is therapeutic [and] people are really missing that live concert or night out experience. We just want to be there for our community and … support our community mental health programs,” said Andrea Milne, CainerFest founder and general manager.

The festival will be live on Zoom and at RockStar Music Hall featuring metal, rock, and indie rock nights with local performers, including Devilz by Definition, Stay at Home Dads, and Madelyn Stein.

“We can host 50 people in the venue … as for virtual attendance … the bands can actually see [and hear] you move, dance, speak, cheer, and applaud,” Milne explained.

This year’s show marks the sixth annual fundraising concert in memory of Jordan “Cainer” Caine, who died by suicide in 2014.

“We’ve raised $50,000 in the last six years, and we hope to continue to support our community, honour those we have lost, and rock on for years to come!” said Milne.

Tickets can be purchased online and more information can be found on the CainerFest 2020 event page.
